What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools so that they can support their disadvantaged pupils and diminish the difference in attainment and progress between disadvantaged children and their peers. It is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years. Schools also receive funding for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months, and children of service personnel (service premium).
What is the purpose of Pupil Premium?
‘The government believes that the pupil premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.’ (Department for Education and Schools)
Who is accountable?
Head teachers are given the responsibility of deciding how the pupil premium funding should be spent and they monitor the effectiveness of the provision.

Broadway Infant School Pupil Premium Strategy
For the academic year 2023-24 our total pupil premium allocation is £38,435
From April 2020 schools will receive;-
£1,345 per primary aged pupil who claims free school meals or who has claimed FSM in the last 6 years.
£2,345 for every pupil who has left local authority care through adoption, a special guardianship order or child arrangements order.
£310 for every pupil with a parent who is serving in the armed forces or has retired on a pension from the Ministry of Defence. This funding is to help with pastoral support.
Broadway school have taken their strategy from DfE and LA advice as well as experience with success within school and other schools in the locality.
A high profile is given to disadvantaged pupils.
All staff are accountable for the progress of disadvantaged pupils.
The progress and attainment of all pupils at Broadway Infants is carefully tracked and analysed from a rich field of data in order to draw conclusions and develop action plans. Each Class teacher meets with School Leaders three times a year to discuss all their pupils and examine the best way forward for each individual.
All interventions will be tailored to the needs of the child.
From September 2020, each Pupil Premium child entitled to Free School Meals will receive up to £70 of funding which can be spent on Breakfast clubs, After School clubs, trips, toast/fruit tuck or milk. In addition to this, each pupil will receive one set of uniform per year. The rest of the funding will be spent on educational initiatives within school.
